7 Ways We Hear the Voice of God: February 5, 2014

INTRO:  “Open the Eyes of My Heart” by Christopher Duffley

Three voices we listen to:
1. Jesus, God, Holy Spirit
2. The Flesh
3. The Enemy

Are there other voices we may hear?
-Family
-Environment

Conversational Notes:
-Some people don’t necessarily want to call it “hearing” God. Some people “SEE” too. We all perceive differently  (Think of different types of learning styles: visual, audible, etc.)

-Some people choose to have “selective hearing” and tune certain voices out,
BUT GOD SAYS EVERYONE CAN HEAR FROM HIM

Hebrews 5:14  We can recognize God’s voice by “solid food” or spending time in the word
Isaiah 30:20-21 Even though you have affliction and adversity you can still hear a voice

7 Ways We Can Hear the Voice of God

1) (Scripture) 2Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2)(Holy Spirit) Hebrews 8:10-11   also see John 14,15,16
This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

3)- (Prophecy) 1Thessalonians 5:19-21
Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.
What is prophecy? Comes from God, comes to mankind, and it’s acted out.

4)- (Godly Counsel) Proverbs 11:14
For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.

5)- (Confirmation) Matthew 18:16
But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.

6)- (Peace or Completion) Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

7)- (Circumstances) Acts 18:1-3
There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them, and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them.

**Circumstances can line up according to God’s will

SUMMARY:
-To hear God’s voice can be a mixture of these.

-You should have multiple ones in coordination.

THIS WEEK:  Pastor Dan challenges you to the same assignment as last week:
Notate where you see God moving, where you haven't seen him before.
And might we possibly be able to join Him in that movement?
